BackgroundThe Canadian Network of Young Specialists in Sport and Exercise Psychology (CNYSSEP) is a student and young professional-run division of the Canadian Sport Psychology Association (CSPA).
The CNYSSEP was inspired by a similar network successfully operating in Europe. In association with the International Society of Sport Psychology (ISSP), European students and young professionals in sport psychology established the European Network of Young Specialists in Sport Psychology (ENYSSP) in order to promote and disseminate knowledge in the field of sport and exercise psychology in the areas of research, education and applied practice.
ENYSSP aims and objectives include:
Develop a common language and to provide support in research and practice to those with an interest in the field,
Collaborate with other governing bodies interested in sport and exercise psychology,
Coordinate links between young researchers, educators and professional practitioners,
Promote and facilitate national cooperation for research, education and applied work, and
Encourage young researchers and professionals in to enhance the quality of their work.
Objectives and Future Directions of the CNYSSEP Short TermEstablish a core group of individuals to form a Managing Council with representation from across Canada
Long TermFocus on the second mandate of the CSPA which is to help develop young specialists across Canada,
Foster ongoing collaboration between its members through online forums, listserves, and other information sharing mediums in order to stay connected to new and emerging ideas,
Create opportunities for those in graduate or undergraduate sport psychology programs to share knowledge and experiences with their research related to applied practice,
Facilitate opportunities for internships toward CSPA Certification by identifying potential supervisors and opportunities,
Conduct an Annual Meeting at ECSEPS (and explore the potential for a Western equivalent), and
Create networking opportunities with others in the field,
